Le Febvre, Sandyford

The client who was involved in the media industry in Wexford and also had various other business interests approached, DMOD to explore re-engineering the North West quarter of the town. This area, which includes Dunnes stores, the old cinema location and the train station, had suffered from traffic congestion at the roundabout and also lacked clarity in relation the separation between public realm / pedestrian and infrastructure / traffic and services.

The plan included the creation of an ambitious retail and cultural quarter, arranged around a framework of “streets and squares”, which would effectively be traffic free other than service vehicles.  While this significant new precinct would change the centre of gravity in the town, the intention was to galvanise the town as a successful retail destination. The first stage masterplan was completed, after which the client engaged with other stakeholders to seek there support. The project was put on hold in 2009.
